Concrete cleaning

Concrete cleaning

Clean exposed concrete effectively and preserve its appearance

Professional concrete cleaning removes mineral deposits, rust, cement residue and stubborn dirt using a method suited to the material. The key is to identify the condition first and match the process to the surface and desired result.

Guidance and selection

Concrete cleaning explained clearly

Professional concrete cleaning removes mineral deposits, rust, cement residue and stubborn dirt using a method suited to the material. The key is to identify the condition first and match the process to the surface and desired result.

Who is this service suitable for?

For property owners, architects, facility managers and maintenance teams responsible for exposed-concrete facades, interiors, stairs, plinths and concrete components.

What you gain

Material-specific approachCleaning agents and intensity are matched to the concrete, contamination and desired finish.
A result you can sampleA trial area demonstrates the effect and limitations before larger areas are treated.
Protection considered from the startAfter cleaning, we assess whether suitable concrete protection can keep the surface clean for longer.

Guidance and selection

Which cleaning method suits your surface?

The type, depth and cause of the contamination determine the method. The two services address different conditions and can be combined on complex surfaces.

Our approach

From assessment to a clean concrete surface

  1. 01

    Assess the condition

We clarify contamination, substrate, previous treatments and the desired result.

  2. 02

    Test the method

Products, intensity and effect are coordinated on a suitable trial area.

  3. 03

    Clean under controlled conditions

The area is treated in sections, neutralised or rinsed as required, and inspected.

  4. 04

    Define follow-up protection

Finally, we assess whether impregnation or hydrophobic treatment is appropriate for lasting protection.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do traces of rust and limescale appear on concrete?

Rust can be caused by metal parts, runoff water or iron-containing entries. Traces of limescale and efflorescence are often caused by moisture, waterways and mineral deposits.

Can you remove rust and lime from concrete with acid?

Uncontrolled acid can attack cement paste, roughen the surface and change the color. BKOS carries out preliminary tests and adjusts the means, concentration, exposure time and neutralization to the concrete.

Can rust and limescale stains be completely removed?

Fresh superficial deposits are usually easier to treat than deeply embedded or long-standing discolorations. The realistic result is assessed based on a sample cleaning.

Do traces of rust or limescale return after cleaning?

Yes, if the cause such as water flow, corroding metal or permanent moisture persists. A sustainable solution combines cleaning with root cause elimination and, if necessary, a protection system.

Does impregnation make sense after special cleaning?

For absorbent and contaminated surfaces, coordinated protection can reduce renewed contamination. Whether it makes sense depends on the surface, appearance, moisture and use.

Can exposed concrete be cleaned with high pressure?

Only with controlled pressure, appropriate distance and after a preliminary test. Excessive pressure can remove cement paste, open pores and create an uneven cleaning pattern.

What dirt does intensive concrete cleaning remove?

Depending on the process, construction site residues, dust, atmospheric dirt, signs of use and certain organic or mineral deposits can be reduced. Oil, paint, rust or lime often require separate special treatment.

Why do some stains remain visible after cleaning?

Some substances penetrate deep into the pores or chemically change the concrete. In such cases, cosmetic adjustment after cleaning may make more sense than further aggressive cleaning attempts.

When should exposed concrete in a new building be cleaned?

Cleaning should be carried out after dirt-intensive work has been completed and with sufficient time before removal or protective treatment. Protective films, construction processes and sample areas help to avoid unnecessary rework.

Does cleaned concrete need post-treatment?

Not fundamentally. For exposed or heavily used areas, hydrophobization, impregnation or graffiti protection can make later maintenance easier.
