Many visual defects on fundamentally intact exposed concrete can be significantly improved through cleaning, reprofiling, retouching or coordinated pigmentation. Before execution, BKOS clarifies whether concrete cosmetics are sufficient or technical concrete restoration is required.

Stains and colour variations

Mögliche Ursache: Uneven formwork absorbency, cement film, efflorescence, water runs, or different curing of the concreting sections.
Vorgehen von BKOS: Cleaning, colour balancing with a matched translucent pigmentation, and spot retouching where needed to blend into the surrounding surface.
Realistische Grenze: The surface is calmed and unified, not made monochrome. The natural liveliness typical of concrete is preserved.

Blowholes and pores

Mögliche Ursache: Air trapped against the formwork face, insufficient compaction, venting problems, or unfavourable consistency during placement.
Vorgehen von BKOS: Cleaning and opening the pores, material-appropriate filling (fine filler / pore slurry), followed by matching of texture and colour.
Realistische Grenze: Fine residual porosity may remain visible. The aim is a calm, even pore pattern, not a mirror-smooth surface.

Honeycombing and breakouts

Mögliche Ursache: Segregation of the concrete, poor compaction around reinforcement, formwork joints, or mechanical damage after striking.
Vorgehen von BKOS: Reprofiling with a texture-matched repair mortar, rebuilding the void to shape, and integrating it into the fair-faced surface in colour and texture.
Realistische Grenze: Deep or structurally relevant breakouts require a prior technical assessment. Cosmetics do not replace structural repair.

Edges and formwork defects

Mögliche Ursache: Burrs at formwork joints, offset panels, broken edges, or imprints from formwork elements and tie cones.
Vorgehen von BKOS: Reworking and rebuilding the edge geometry, matching the joint pattern and texture, and retouching the formwork marks.
Realistische Grenze: Construction-related joints and the tie-cone grid remain part of the appearance and are integrated, not removed.

Concrete cosmetics suit optical deviations on a load-bearing substrate: uneven colour tones, pores, smaller defects, repair marks or an inconsistent formwork pattern.

Betonsanierung

Cracks with movement, corrosion, exposed reinforcement, deep spalling or moisture causes require technical assessment first. Cosmetics must not conceal necessary repair work.

Which exposed concrete defects can be corrected cosmetically?

Typical tasks include stains, colour differences, pores, honeycombing, smaller spalling, edges and visible repair areas. Whether cosmetic correction is sufficient depends on the substrate and cause.

Will repaired areas become completely invisible?

Not every deviation can be made fully invisible. The goal is material-appropriate integration into the overall appearance. A sample area shows in advance what is achievable on the specific property.

When is concrete restoration needed instead of concrete cosmetics?
